Thoughts and Dreams of a Labruskie

All About An Indi Dog

I'm a Husky/Retriever Cross with a quizical expression.(Does that make me a Labruskie or a Husktriever) I came to live with my owners from Manchester on 24 November 2008. My family is two humans B & P, assorted wildlife, extended family humans and lots and lots of fish!!

Welcome to My World

Welcome to my New Site - I hope you like it! Keep up to date with all my adventures or check out my rated walkies suggestions If you would like to leave me a message please remember it doesn't appear right away as I have to do something called moderating - it is a bit like chewing - to make sure nothing in your comments will be worrying to a little pup!

A1 Student

Puppy class today and I was a good boy - made a new friend in Gizmo who is a shy little doggy - the teacher asked her mummy to sit next to me as I was a chilled out pup and so would't frighten her. I even did my recall with her - got my directions a bit mixed up and jumped over her as I headed down to P the long way round!

Also got to see Little Archie who is my best mate - we had a great wrestle! All the gang were there and we had a great time snuffing and playing!

Then after school B took me and Ellie in the car up to Beacon Park - big wags for that B we had a great time - check out my Walkies section to see! The photo is what happens when B trys to take a picture of both me and Ellie - oops!

It is going really chilly again - I am glad I have my furry feet! B&P say that we will have a local walk tomorrow to see where the Wood with No Name takes us - so might be able to update my map a bit - have you been to my Map section yet - it is a local walk for local doggies!

Ball Chucker Fun Up the Beacon!

Walkie Location: Beacon Country Park - How to get there!

Human Considerations: Plenty of free car parking, well maintained paths, plenty of poo bins means not too many piles of the stuff to tread in.

Doggy Thoughts: This is a great place for a walk - both Ellie and I really like it here I can indulge in some serious ball chucker and frizbee fun on the big open grassy hill and Ellie can potter along sniffing all the messages and admiring the view! There are often lots of people up on the beacon and it is very popular for people standing holding large frizbees on string - this is called Kite Flying apparently and you get in trouble for trying to chew them when they are on the ground. There are lots of paths to go on from the car parks I haven't explored them all yet and there are several ponds where small humans can dip for pond creatures (under supervision as they are deep) I did try and suggest that it would be good for a young puppy to try a bit of Pond dipping but B said no! When we went up there today there was hardly anyone else up on the big field so I was able to Play and chase to my hearts content and Ellie enjoyed sitting around looking at the view in the sunshine!

BusyBusy Doggy Diary

Phew it has been a busy few days.

On Friday Ellie got poorley so B and P took her to the nice people at the vets who have been working to make her all better - Get well Soon Ellie hope to see you tomorrow will try and keep my bounces to my self!

Saturday was Puppy class and I was dead good - did my Down and came when I was called even though I was off my lead and all my friends were there - I got a clap from everyone and a piece of frankfurter from Phil - heaven for puppies

Then cos B had boring house work to do P and I took a road trip to see all my friends in Liverpool - I saw Keith first - we went for a walk along the marina (see the picture) and I had a great time playing on the sand - although complaint to management please can we take my ball chucker next time!!
Then we went to see my hero Bailey and his pack Amber and Ben and the cats and the rabbit - Had such a mad play with them that by the time I came back I was too tired to even say hello to b!

Today (Sunday) B and P and I went on one of my absolute fave walks (infact the very walk I first walked as a big doggy) to Haigh Hall and this time we took my Ball chucker Yippie!!!!! and if that wasn't exciting enough meeting doggies and walking and playing we went to my fave shop too and I got to have a look round Pets At Home and got lots of strokes off people and met a couple of other shopping doggies! I did try picking out a new ball but was told I had enough but I did get a new Kong to help with my teething issues (it hurts to chew at the moment)

Then we came home and you never guess what dear puppy readers? I found out what goes on in that Big oblong box B and P sometimes lay in in the Bathroom - YOU GET WASHED!!!!! oh the trauma - I mean I had heard of these mystical occasions called BATH TIME from Mum and Dad but this was my first time. I wont say it was the best thing I have ever done but actually it was better than I thought it would be. I got wrapped in a big towel and snuggled and a brush and had treats for being a good boy!

Sniff Ya later - off to see what exciting way I am getting my tea tonight - I am bored with eating out my bowl (oops) so I am seeing what they come up with!!!

Local Walks for Local Dogs

Today was a good walk - Ellie's legs weren't too bad so she said she would like to come on our walk :). It was a really nice day the sun was out and the birds were singing and B took us one of my fav walks down poo lane, through Upper Growley Wood and back down puddle lane with some Ball chucker fun and it got me thinking about all the nice walks we can go on with out having to get in a car!

B, P and I give all the places names - it is like our secret map - and I thought I would tell you something about them. Check Out My Map above!!

Growley Woods - there is an Upper and a Lower Growley woods - depends which way you turn off poo lane, and it is so named because of the Growley thing we met a couple of weeks ago - before then it was just the woods! I really like Growley Woods as there are lots of paths we can take and good open bits for some intensive Ball Chucker action

Poo Lane - So named because this is where lots of doggys go for a poop and not many people pick it up like good humans like mine. Poo lane leads to Growley Woods and then beyond to a place I have never been called a cemetry but B says that is not a place for doggys to visit

Ball Chucker Mountain and Ball Chucker Plain - Ball Chucker mountain is more of a small hill but we liked the name and leads up onto Ball Chucker Plain - it is a crazy place wonderful mud as far as a furry eye can see with lots of streams and gulleys to explore and jump across. There are also little patches of grasses and trees to jump on - B says you can see deer up here sometimes I haven't seen any yet though - What is a deer by the way and will I like it if I see one?

Puddle Lane - This leads from upper Growley Wood round passed horsey farm and back down towards my house. I LOVE puddle lane as there are lots and lots of puddles to slutch in and at the moment there is even a stream running along side it to run along. I like doing Ball Chucker along here as it gives me a chance to pounce in puddles.

Foggy Wood - Foggy wood is a fun place to visit but always seems foggy when we go - hence the name. Only trouble is the path between the trees is quite narrow - last time I went there I miss judged my sticks length and ended up stuck between two trees :( B Laughed A LOT which I thought was a bit mean!

Slutchy Wood - This is dog heaven for me but I dont get to go often as it is Human Hell apparently! This is the most boggy and wet wood I have so far been to and it comes out into a big field which is ace to run round. If you know the secret way you can cut back over Ball Chucker plain and down Ball Chucker mountain - you have to jump a stream too - great doggy adventures.

There are loads of other places I haven't explored yet so will up date you at a later date - but now you know all the places I talk about ;)

Snuff Ya Later am off to cause mischief as Auntie Ellie is too quiet!!!

Housemates

Auntie Ellie has moved in this evening - we went to pick her up as she is coming here to stay on a little holiday. I have shown her the garden and we have had a snuff or three, B says I am a little jealous legs as I like to get snuggles too when Ellie is getting them.

At the moment Ellie is just settling in and deciding were she wants to sleep etc - I am trying to be a good boy and show her where to go and share the rug nicely. Poor Ellie has old legs that hurt a bit - sometimes B puts her into little boots to help her stand up - she looks very smart in them but B says I dont need to wear things like that yet - although I am getting a rucksack when I am older so I can carry my own things - so P tells me. Tell you what though Ellie does Snore loudly!!! But I can't say too much as she is having her nails cut - I had mine done on Sunday - DID NOT like that very much I can tell you!

Oh and before I forget I did get a bonio from the doggy tooth fairy - B said she left it with her as I am not allowed to snack in bed - only got one though so think I was jipped - what say you my bloggy doggy friends

Gummy Doggy

Well there is a turn up for the books was playing with P - some rough and tumble boy game - and out popped not one but two of my baby teeth - so now I feeling a little bit sad for myself as my big boy teeth are coming through and hurting a bit :(

B says if I am a good boy maybe the doggy tooth fairy will come and leave me a Bonio under my pillow - not a bad trade I suppose - wonder if I get two bonios cos I lost two teeth - must go and check that fact - dont want to be done out of my rights

Gum ya later

102 Dalmations

Yipeeeeeeeee! it is snowing - went out for a play in it - I like to try and bite the flakes as they come down. B said was I auditioning for the missing Dalmation in 101 - not sure what she means there!

While I was out there and because B has been talking about needing to garden I thought I would give her a hand - oops!

Beach Fun

Went to the seaside yesterday and met Alex and his Mum and Dad - we went for a really long walk along the beach, it was very very windy and my ball kept going off funny places when Alex threw it - Alex brought a Frizbie with him and said I could play too - the wind kept bowling it along the sand so I had to run and run and run to catch up.

New Friends 2

What an exciting day to day! First there was Puppy class - made a bit of a mess at my sit and stay as I was distracted by big doggy arriving and then didn't do too great at my heel work either - B says she loves me but I was a bit rubbish - I saw my friends Little Archie and Big Archie and Brodie too and we had a bit of a play before class.

Then after Puppy class we went to see Auntie Ellie and guess what there was another little doggy there visiting called Poppy - her humans are part of B's big pack and they had come for a visit with Poppy. We had a little play and then went for a really really long slutchy muddy walk - it was brill! There was quite a bit of road walking too so I practiced really hard and was doing nice heeling to B - even earned the odd choccie drop along the way!

Poppy is a little bit worried about cars so she didn't like walking over the motorway bridges but I didn't mind I like to look down at the the cars and lorries as they whizz passed - even faster than a ball out of the Ball Chucker. Poppy wasn't very good at ball play - she liked to chase them but wasn't very good at bringing them back - which was fine - it is nice to chase together but I really like to get my ball and bring it back for a pat. I did get a bit excited and jump up a couple of times so poor B was thankful she had thought to take spare clothes as I leave paw prints up her leg - now I think they look quite stylish but B doesn't agree!

Am a really tired pup tonight so am off to bed - just wanted to show you a piccie of Poppy and me befor I did..

Lick ya Later

Sleepy Boy

Good grief I am a tired boy this morning - had a play day with Aunty Ellie yesterday as B & P had to go to the office and boy am I pooped - there was so much to do playing with Ellie's humans, and bouncing on Ellie, exploring her big garden and two walks and watching the children coming out of school and the horses and the birds - gee whizz there was no time for puppy snoozes.

B&P came and picked me up in the evening - I was very pleased to see them but sooo tired so I snoozed infront of the telly last night and then this morning when B came down I was still snoozing in my bed!

Off to snooze some more - maybe on the window ledge - although I get told off for sleeping on there as I often fall off mid dream and have to be caught!

Sniff Ya Later!

Pups go Shopping!

Another busy day for a pup - first P got up really really early - he was going something called Skirmishing where so B tells me he runs around like a mad thing in the woods firing small plastic balls at other people who are firing back at him - he has some very nice bruises that for once are not paw shaped! So I had my puppy pile and lie in with B instead.

Then B and I were really brave and went to growly wood to proove that there is nothing to be scared of there now.

Once we came back (and hadn't been eaten by anything) we went to my most favourite shop - Pets at Home (although there are other pet shops available) I like Pets at Home cos I get to choose my own shopping. We went and found my dinner and then I used my nose to sniff out the Gerbil's dinner and then cos I am a good boy I was able to choose some treats - chose choccie drops, and best of all when we were waiting in the queue I noticed that there were some bargin toys by the till and while B was talking to a nice lady I helped myself to one I really really liked and you know what? B bought it for me - it is a bit like a tuggy but all in a big knot so it is a ball and a tuggy and a chewy thing in one. If that wasn't enough we came home and found a big boys football so B brought it in and washed it and now I have that to play with too.

Then I went to see Ellie and her humans - took my new tuggy knot thingy to show Ellie, and we went for some Ball Chucker fun

Then to round the day off I have helped P with his bath - although he didn't seem too keen on my attempts.

Off to chew my new toy - sniff ya later!

School Daze

Wow wee what a day for a little puppy like me - first (after we had had our early morning puppy pile snooze on the bed) we went to Standish for my first ever morning at school - actually it was only an hour but it felt a very long time - I met lots of very nice doggies and their owners - in particular I liked little Archie - he is a ball of fluff the same age as me who is a Minature Schnauzer and big Archie who is a Giant Schnauzer - I sat between them and we snuffed noses while the teacher was talking.

The teacher lady has her own puppy and guess what he is called Indi too! It meant I got a bit confused a couple of times cos I thought she was talking to me! First we listened to a talk - well B and P listened and I either snoozed or sniffed with Archie and Archie, some of the other doggies were very noisey but I was very good and only sang a little bit. After the talk we all stood in a circle and I sat behind B - well actually I lay behind her with my head through her legs resting on her feet to get a better view, and then we all took it in turns to walk round in a circle to say hello to everyone. Then we had to practice sit - I was a bit distracted when it came to showing the class what I knew but I did manage to sit - eventually - then we played pass the puppy - where we stood in a circle again and we puppies moved round the circle to meet everyone - I was a little bit worried as I went round further and further from P - but then I saw B and knew I was ok. Lastly we did sit and stay - this time I excelled and my homework is to practise my stay for longer because I did well - some of the other puppies only have to do short stays. Then it was all over and school was out for the day - I am looking forward to next week

Then because I had been a really good boy we went for a most excellent walk to Cureden Valley - I have never been there before but B and P knew the way - we took ball chucker to so I had a really good time - even had a tiny paddle but I am still not sure about water - there is something inside me that makes water really really interesting in a paddling kind of way but I am not giving into it yet - it is tooooooooooo cold! Beside water is not that far removed from MUD and I am really not sure about the squelchy feeling. While I was out I had to practise my sit and stay (I need to practice when I am distracted ) but I dont mind as I get tasty treats when I get it right.
We met lots and lots of doggies on our walk and I even managed to be a brave boy and not roll over evertime.

P is off out tomorrow so B says after she has done some jobs (and if I am a good boy) we will got to Pets at Home to get me and the gerbils some more dinner and then we might go and see Ellie for a walkie. B and me met an unknown growley thing on our walk yesterday and so we are not sure about going for a walkie round here tomorrow as I was very worried and so was B - we need to be brave next week though unless we go somewhere in the car.

Well I am shattered now - can hardly keep my furry eyes open (actually neither can P but I think he thinks I didn't just notice him nodding off then!)

Tatty bye and doggy snuggles till next time

my latest trick

I told you this morning that I liked to stand and look out of the office window - well dont tell anyone but I have been quietly improving my new trick - and now I have a comfy place to sleep and watch the sheep - hmm now how do I get down!

What a difference a month makes!

I am getting a big boy now and have lived here for 6 whole weeks so I thought I would have a think about all the new things I can do now I am a big puppy!

I have to wear a big boy collar now - my baby one was getting tight - B got me a really really cool one that is camoflage just like P's fave trousers - so we match when we step out together!

I can get to stuff on the side if I stand on two legs - now I admit this act usually gets me in trouble but you know what maybe it is worth it cos there are sometimes good pickings up there - like Moomin's dinner!

I can bounce up onto the back of the setee in B's office and look out of the high window at all the sheep and people's gardens - it is great to watch birds and cats from up high! (see picture)

I can sleep right through the night without needing a wee - this gets me lots of praise and sometimes a treat.

I can go for longer big boy walks with lots of sniffing and ball chasing if I am lucky

I can go longer in the day without needing to go out - this is good as it means I dont need to stop playing so much.

I can have all my dinner in one go as I have learnt that I dont need to eat really really really quickly (I still need to sit nicely and wait for it though)

I can ride in the boot when we go out in the car - which means I have loads more space and can look out of the big window at all the cars behind!

things I can't really do anymore:

I can't ask for a carry if I am tired when out - well I can but I get told I am a lump and there is no way I am getting one

I can't really fit on the settee downstairs if both B & P are on it - I used to fit between them but now apparently I have too many legs - but I have my big boy bed in front of the telly so I dont mind too much!

I can't sit on people's knees for hours at an end anymore as apparently I make their legs go dead (dont worry that doesn't mean I dont get snuggles)

Guess that is not too many things I can't do anymore but quite a few new things so I guess growing up isn't a bad thing - off to show raggy moo the sheep from the office window - lick ya later!

Work! Bah Humbug!

B and P actually got up before me this morning as they have gone back to work :(

I went for a walk round the block this morning with B - it was very very slippy! then we had breakfast and since then I have been up in her office working hard! (as you can see from my picture) I have been promised a Walkie at lunchtime if I am good boy - so I am trying!

Home Alone!

Ok I am not really B is here but P has gone to liverpool so I was a bit sad this morning. But I cheered up when B put the hoover to one side (she has been taking the christmas decorations down) and got my lead and the car keys and took me off up to the Beacon. Guess what it was SNOWING up there - I could hardly see my ball in the blizzard but luckily B had picked up red balls so I could still find them (as could she when I misplaced one or two).

We came back a very soggy and happy pair - all dried and snuggly warm now though we are watching the telly curled up on the sofa waiting for Phil to come home

tatty bye for now x

New Friends

Today I met some new people and a new doggy friend. This photo is us sharing the fireplace!

I met Joff, Ruby and Bertie who are the humans belonging to Moomin who is a Whippet and is very very fast!

We went for a nice walk round Haigh Hall, I was quite worried about Moomin as his is very very big to a little doggy like me and he kept pinching my tennis balls and rolling me over! But once we were back at B's Mum and Dad's we made friends (although I was careful to be polite and mind my manners round him) It also helped that Lily and her daddy had come to see Moomin's humans too so I was able to go and get snuggles off her when I was worried. And Bertie and Ruby were very friendly too and let me lick them to say hello.

I am a very tired boy so off to see if B has finished mending my bed - I erm got up a bit early and had a bit of a play with it so when B came down all the insides were outside - ooopps! Sorry B!

Back to school for me

Oops I am in a bit of trouble tonight, with the excitement of Christmas and everything I have been forgetting my manners - so we are having to have some refresher lessons!

I was a good boy yesterday when Lily gave me my dinner though - so B is going to load up the video of it so I can watch it and remember

A photo of me

Lily took this picture of me yesterday it is quite my fave picture - so I have added it as my profile one - but in case you can't see it very well! Which way up am I?

Walking in a Lily Wonderland!

Me waiting for Lily

I went for a really long walk with my best friend Lily on New Years Day - we went to a big lake that was all frozen and then Lily and I did lots of running and ball chasing
We met lots and lots and lots of doggies some were very friendly but one naughty one rolled me over and then wee'd on P's leg - he didn't see the funny side of that although B and Lily were laughing really hard

It was a really really good day out!

Happy New Year everyone

Guess what?

We had snow, YIPPEE! (but it just seemed localised to central Wigan, and no where else!). Its strange stuff to get used to. I went around the garden and it was cold on my paws and I left paw prints behind me. Its funny when you snuff it, it goes up your nose and makes you sneezy, and cold! Despite that, me and P went for a nice brisk walk for about an hour and played 'ball chucker'. I did have fun. It made me tired for my car journey to Sarah & Mark's for New Year.

Well, I had a very late night for such a small puppy. Although now only 4 months old I stayed up late to let the New Year in with B&P and Sarah & Mark of course. Little Lily had gone to bed as she's only 4. (but she is a big 5 soon!). Despite all the fire works and load of bangs I wasn't scared at all. I did have a very busy day on New Years Eve with 2 big walks and lots of 'ball chucker' action, so was quite tired, and P had to carry me upstairs to bed after letting in 2009. Isn't it nice to have such devoted owners?

Lots of snoozes to catch-up on, nite nite everyone.

Love,

Indi
